Upgraded WordPress. Broke my theme.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

I upgraded WordPress to version 2.5.1 and it broke my main theme for The Sh17 dot com.   It’s only the main index page that’s broken.. All single post pages and other list pages seem to work fine..  I’m trying to figure out what exactly is wrong, but I’ll probably just finish up fixing the original theme and re-implement it.

Fun Flash Game – Attak

Monday, April 21, 2008

The other day I stumbled on this awesome flash game, Attak.  It’s a pretty fun and addicting fighting game.

“Holy balls. This is fun”

JohnnyTwoShoes – Now Playing Attak
“Attak is a fighting game about using special moves to defeat your opponent. You don’t have to worry about buildings or land getting in your way because you can just smash right through them.

Each character has their own unique special move, a special move can be performed by pressing the button associated with the star.”

Problems with the old design in Internet Explorer

IE Hates TheSh17

I’ve been working on The Sh17’s server for the last few hours, and decided I’d try to get our old design working again.  I’ve ironed out most of the bugs that were keeping it from working at all with wordpress.  Now the main problem IE hates me.  Everything looks fine in Firefox, but IE displays the header wrong.

I haven’t gotten around to fixing it just yet but I’m trying to decide which design I like better.

The Original TheSh17 theme?

Or

The pre-made theme that we’re currently using?

More than likely I’ll end up making the original design prettier to match up to the new one, or try to incorporate the logo into the current design.

You can help stop Uwe Boll!

Friday, April 11, 2008

I was browsing the CAD forums today and saw this thread about a petition to stop Uwe Boll from making more movies.

First off, the link to the petition is :

http://www.petitiononline.com/RRH53888/petition.html

I signed it and was #182523.   Supposedly if this reaches 1 million signatures, Uwe Boll will stop making movies.  If you don’t know who he is.  Check out his imdb profile.  I personally don’t think his movies are complete crap, but I do agree that he usually has almost no understanding of the games he tries to turn into movies.  Postal looks pretty damn funny, but I don’t know if it’ll be another let-down or not.

Anyway. Go sign the petition!  Only 817,477 signatures are still needed!

New York Mets Fans Rickrolled? Internets are won.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

For April Fools day, Google made an attempt to RickRoll youtube users.  The Official New York Mets website held a poll for fans and users to pick the mets new theme song.   Guess what happened?  Someone, somewhere, had to outdue Google and behold:

CSS Naked Day

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

April 9th is apparently CSS Naked Day again. I’m going to participate with TheSh17. It’s pretty easy with the wordpress plugin that does it automatically. I think MySpace should do the internet a favor and kill their stylesheets for a day. Then I don’t know where else I’d get to use this neat bookmarklet.

Free Newsdemon accounts

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

I’ve been using Giganews as my usenet provider for almost a year now.   With 20 SSL-Encrypted connections that max out my bandwidth, 200+ days binary retention, and unlimited downloads; it’s pretty hard to find a good alternative.   The only downside is $30 a month.

Newsdemon.com is offering a one-month free account if you write about their service.  Their “Unlimited Plus” plan that I’m interested in is only $23 a month.   $7 cheaper than what I’ve been paying.   The main difference is 110days binary retention.  I don’t think the extra 90 days are too important to me.

The Unlimited Plus plan offers

  • 20 SSL-Encrypted connections
  • US and Euro high-speed servers
  • 110+ days binary retention with 99.9% completion rate
  • Free NewsRover newsreader software (I’ve never heard of it, but am willing to try it)
  • Uncensored, Unmonitored downloads
  • 24/7 tech support

PayPal is even an accepted form of payment  if you’re a little weary about giving out credit card information.

I plan to try this for one month (free, if they let me) and then possibly,if I like it, get the 6month unlimited plan that offers a 15% discount when you pay in advance.

Until then, I can’t comment much on their service since I haven’t given it a try yet.  Once I do, I’ll definitely post a review on the experience.
